Business Development Services
The Business Development Services (BDS) division,
as the name states, is the main division within the corporation
tasked with the responsibility for the evelopment and promotion
of the Small and Medium Enterprise sector hrough provision of
a range of products, initiatives and activities.
A full complement of BDS involves training,
credit/finance and extension services.
The BDS division is providing and is working
towards providing a wide range of services/products from credit/access
to credit, market/information research, collation and information
dissemination, newsletters, publicity or promotion of SBDC and
its
programmes and activities.
Whilst training is a BDS service, the SIYB
training is mostly oordinated by the SIYB programme division
and delivered through its affiliated network partner organisations,
although the BDS division does undertake/conduct SIYB training
from time to time where other network partners are unable to
do so.
Through the BDS division, the Corporation provides
support, input and participation at various committees like
WTO steering committee, PACP/EU partnership agreement, SME policy
review committee, ADB micro-finance steering committee, WTTC
steering
committee and CIMC's sectoral committees.
Some of the new initiatives/programmes that are in the pipeline
or coming on stream in the next 12 months are:

In due course the Corporation will create
its own website for the use of and by the organisation and
its clientele as part and parcel of its informatisation
process and in keeping with the global trend in e-business/e-trade;

The credit scheme is being reviewed and
the form it is to operate as is being looked at and as soon
as the necessary processes and mechanics are in place, this
will be implemented;

The BDS division is currently working
with the Chief Technical Advisor – SIYB Programme and the
National Women's Entrepreneurs Association to have them
properly organised and housed within SBDC in order to further
assist them in developing their programmes and initiatives
targeting the women entrepreneurs;

In conjunction with the SIYB Programme
Phase 3, we are embarking on commencing and completing the
Provincial Enterprise Development Plan (PEDP) in the four
provinces piloted under Phase 2; and

With the assistance of the CTA-SIYB and
International Labour Organisation Sub-Regional Office in
Manila, are exploring and furthering the necessary arrangements
for the attachment of a Commodity Broker within SBDC.
